Alder is a small town in southwestern Montana with a population of about 116 people (2000 census). Alder has a K-6 school, gas station/convenience store, steakhouses, taverns, motel and a post office. The small village of Alder is located in the beautiful Ruby Valley. The Greater Ruby Valley of Southwest Montana is a ranching community with some of the finest big game hunting and fishing in the country. The proximity of the Ruby, Beaverhead, Madison, Big Hole and Jefferson rivers enhance the popularity of the valley.
