The ranch is conveniently located off Mill Creek Road, a partially paved county road, just 4± miles east of Sheridan. Sheridan is situated in Southwestern Montana approximately 2½ hours from Yellowstone National Park. Sheridan is an agricultural based community with a population of around 659 people (2000 census pop.). The town offers a variety of commercial, institutional, and social amenities including K-12 school, medical clinic, rest home, bank, motels, restaurants , bars, and churches. A county maintained airport is located approximately 8 miles NW of Sheridan. Commercial air service is available in Butte, about 65 miles north, or in Bozeman, about 85 miles northeast, of Sheridan. These areas also offer expanded commercial, institutional, and social amenities.
Located approximately 20 miles from Sheridan are the historic towns Nevada City and Vir-ginia City. Though preserved as a ghost town, Virginia City is still very much alive and is home to year round locals. Tourists come from all around to see the well preserved old west Victorian gold mining town. Panning for gold and garnets, taking a train ride, watching a show at Opera House or the Brewery Follies, shopping for Old West souvenirs, and touring the historic buildings are just a few of the activities V.C. has to offer.
Nearby secondary education opportunities are located just 38 miles south at the University of Montana—Western in Dillon (2000 census pop. 4000). Montana State University, Montana‟s largest university, is approximately 85 miles northeast in Bozeman (2000 census pop. 27,509). Montana Tech specializes in mining and petroleum related engineering and sciences and is located nearby in Butte (2000 census pop. 33,892).

Elevations on the ranch range from around 5,800 feet (above mean sea level) along the creek bottoms to around 6,000 feet to 6,200 feet at the buildings and irrigated pastures. Upper elevations on the mountain slopes reach around 7,000 feet. According to local USDA/ASCS data, the area average annual precipitation is about 12 inches. Average annual temperature is around 40 degrees F. Average frost free period is about 100 days.
